The municipality of São Brás de Alportel joins this Thursday, September 22nd, and once again, the European Car Free Day and promotes a set of activities for the whole family, at Largo de São Sebastião, between the 10:00 and 20:30.

Created in 1998, the European Car Free Day aims to raise awareness of the population to adopt more ecologically efficient vehicles and forms of travel, in defense of “Pure Air for All”.

In this 2011 edition, whose theme is dedicated throughout Europe to Alternative Mobility, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, in partnership with the X Dream Blásius Association, join forces to make the European Car Free Day an opportunity to rediscover space urban, car-free, and sharing new experiences in clean vehicles.

Throughout the day, an Expo Bike takes place in this space, where visitors can enjoy different types of bicycles and obtain information about materials, technical characteristics, among other pertinent information from the members of the X Dream Blásius Association.

For the most curious, Expo Bike also offers the opportunity to try the bikes on display, thus raising awareness for the adoption of these vehicles in daily commuting.

Segways are present, for the second consecutive year, in the São Brasense program of the European Car Free Day and challenge children and adults to try these ecological, robust and simple-to-use vehicles, which use renewable energy.

Technologically advanced, they allow self-balancing and movement on two wheels, in an alternative and very fun ride.

Considering that automobiles contribute more than 50% to the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere, one of the main responsible for the air pollution that intensifies the greenhouse effect that is behind countless environmental and health problems, the municipality chose for bringing to this year's program the experience of driving a hybrid car, which will be on test drive, in São Brás de Alportel.

This car has an internal combustion engine and an electric motor that reduces the effort of the combustion engine and thus reduces consumption and emissions of polluting gases into the atmosphere.

The program includes yet another edition of the Family Bike Tour, starting at 18:30 pm, aimed at parents, family and friends of all ages, on a route accessible to everyone, about 8 km long, which invites you to discover the municipality on wheels.

In a more radical version, for those in love with adventure sports, the program has a suggestive "BTT-Bitch Hunting for Gambuzinos", starting at 20:00, from the same place, over a route with more than 20 km and a high level of demand, for challenge participants to test their stamina and adrenaline!

The celebration of the European Car Free Day 2011 continues the initiatives developed by the São Brasense municipality, within the scope of its education and environmental awareness policy, which is based on the defense of a more sustainable future for the new generations.
