Loulé firefighters continue to watch over the fire that broke out in the early hours of Monday at a recycling center in the Ludo area and whose extinction they still cannot predict, the corporation's source told Lusa.

According to the commander of Fire Brigade of Loulé, Irlandino Santos, the amount of smoke released is practically the same since the start of the fire, which indicates that the intensity of the heat should also be similar.

“There is no noticeable decrease in the amount of smoke”, he said, estimating that the fire will last for more days, although it is expected that there will be a reduction in its intensity.

A device made up of seven men supported by two vehicles stands on the perimeter of the recycling center of the company Inertegarve to watch over the fire.

The smoke that in the last two days reached the city of Faro causing some concern among villagers is now being pushed by the wind in the opposite direction.

The fire has already consumed tons of plastic and wood, but firefighters have managed to prevent it from spreading to the adjacent pine forest, on the edge of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
