The 44 students from the first cycle of the São João Basic School, in Manta Rota, were transferred to Vila Nova de Cacela (parish head office), at the request of the guardians, who presented a petition expressing this wish to the local authority.

According to the councilor with the education portfolio, Conceição Cabrita, the move met the demands of parents, who asked for an end to the daily trips of students to Vila Nova de Cacela to have lunch and attend classes in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) or the library.

The Manta Rota school, fully requalified two years ago, will now function as a hub for the Universidade dos Tempos Livres.
