Searches resumed at Barragem do Arade to look for evidence of Maddie's disappearance

The searches are being carried out by the Judiciary Police and by German and English authorities.

The police searches in the context of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann were resumed this morning at the Arade dam, in Silves, after a first day of work in which no elements found by the police were reported.

This is the second day of searches, after the operation was suspended on Tuesday, shortly after 18 pm, at a time when it started to rain in the area of the reservoir where the researchers were carrying out research on the ground.

During today, dozens of authorities remain committed to the operation, including Silves firefighters, supported by a pneumatic vessel, although no divers have yet been seen in the water.

The searches were triggered by an investigation by the German police, who suspect the involvement of a German citizen, Christian Bruckner, detained in his country of origin for rape, in the disappearance of the British child in Praia da Luz, in Lagos, in 2007.

The searches are being carried out by the Judiciary Police and by German and English authorities.

The operations are being followed by dozens of journalists from different countries, such as Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany or New Zealand, and are taking place in an area previously delimited by the authorities and with restricted access to researchers.

The German police suspect that Christian Bruckner was involved in the disappearance of the child, who was three years old in 2007, and police investigations focus on an area of the Arade dam that would have been frequented by the German citizen during his stay in Portugal.
