The number of couples with both elements unemployed fell 7,1% in April, in year-on-year terms, having retreated 3% compared to the previous month, according to data released today by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
Thus, «of the total unemployed married or in a de facto relationship, 9.244 (8%) also have a record that their spouse is also registered as unemployed at the employment service, totaling 4.622 unemployed couples, in April 2023, which represents -7,1%, when compared to the same period of the previous year», indicated the entity.
According to the IEFP, referring to the mainland's employment services, unemployment "decreased by 4,8% compared to the same period last year and 3,5% compared to the previous month", and, "relative to the total number of unemployed married or in de facto union situation, there is a decrease of 4,8% (-5.830 unemployed) compared to April 2022 and a decrease of 2,7% (-3.232) compared to March 2023».
The IEFP also revealed that, "at the end of April 2023, 280.970 unemployed were registered with the mainland's employment services, of which 41,3% were married or living in a de facto union, making a total of 116.060".
Couples in this situation of double unemployment are entitled to a 10% increase in the amount of the unemployment benefit, when they have dependents.
