Registration is free

The Journeys of the Rural World take place this Friday and Saturday, 19th and 20th of May, at Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim.

This initiative aims to «promote the debate and sharing of knowledge on issues related to the development of rural territory, territory management, sustainable food, nature and landscape preservation, as well as the promotion of multifunctional systems in rural areas» , says the Chamber of Alcoutim.

During two days, participants will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on issues such as land use planning, integrated land management, sustainable food, nature and landscape preservation, as well as the importance of multifunctional systems in rural areas.

The program encompasses several panels, with the participation of specialists and professionals. Lectures will be presented and topics such as future perspectives for low-density territories, the management of territories in rural areas, desertification and rural development will be presented.

In addition, there will be moments for sharing successful projects and initiatives, such as the Festival of Forgotten Food and the Prato Certo – Food + Sustainable project. The book “Alcoutim, an Architectural and Landscape Heritage to be Valued” will also be launched, which will contribute to the knowledge and appreciation of the local heritage.

«This initiative is extremely important to promote debate and the exchange of knowledge on fundamental issues related to the development of our rural territory», says Osvaldo Gonçalves, mayor of Alcoutim.

«Through these days, we hope to encourage discussion and find solutions to the challenges we face in the rural world. We want to encourage the implementation of multifunctional systems that value existing resources, promote economic diversification and improve the quality of life of local populations», he adds.
