The Centenary Exhibition of the São Luís Stadium, a proposal presented by Pedro Paulo Silvestre Gonçalves, was the great winner of the third edition of the Participatory Budget (OP) of Faro, whose results were released this Thursday, April 20, at the Regional Museum of the Algarve.
The proposal, which received 216 votes, will thus receive monetary support of 30 euros from the municipality.
«São Luís Stadium turns 100 this year. I think it is an important brand, not only for Sporting Club Farense, but for the whole city because, if we think about it, and the exhibition will show this, when this stadium appears there was nothing in that area, except for the cemetery, and the city develops from the stadium», Pedro Gonçalves told journalists.
The first phase of the exhibition will take place at Palacete Belmarço – «a building that is closed and must be visited by people» – for about two months.
Then, in principle, it will move to the IPDJ premises, and will also pass by João de Deus Secondary School, in Faro.
«The exhibition will consist of photographs and a historical survey of what was the emergence of the stadium and all the evolution until today», explained the promoter of the idea, who is part of the management of Farense. To this end, the project is counting on the support of the population in order to gather the possible and necessary materials.
According to Pedro Gonçalves, the exhibition will be launched by the end of the year.
This year's PB had 52 proposals, of which 31 were selected to go to the vote. Of these, six were winners, also counting on monetary support from the municipality.
In second place, with 212 votes, was the proposal for a “New Living Space on Travessa da Saúde”, at the União de Freguesias de Faro, presented by Joana Isabel Inácio Nunes.
The third place, which collected 187 votes, is related to the Anthology of Charolas de Bordeira, in the Parish of Santa Bárbara, and was presented by the musician Nelson Conceição.
The Requalification of the Santo António do Alto Sports Complex, in Atalaia, received 161 votes, in the Trails of Faro and Montenegro, 119 people voted and, on Trilhos de Estoi, 86.
Rogério Bacalhau, President of the City Council of Faro, was satisfied with the fact that more and more people were aware of this municipal initiative and competing, but stressed that «there could be even more participation».
To journalists, the mayor from Faro admitted that, «taking into account that prices have risen», «next year, the value [attributed to each winning proposal] may be increased».
Regarding the winning projects, Rogério Bacalhau said that «all are linked to the communities and, therefore, all have their own value».
The mayor also took stock of the execution of projects from previous editions and stated that they are all moving forward. «Sometimes there is some difficulty in implementing projects, because people think that just having the money to implement them is enough. But, sometimes, it is necessary to ask for opinions from external entities, it is even necessary to make specialty architecture projects, that is why we have in the regulation itself that the Municipality and the entities have two years to carry out this project», concluded Rogério Bacalhau.
This year, the City Council of Faro again invested around 180 euros in the Participatory Budget, with each winning project receiving up to 30 euros.
In this third edition (and for the first time), it was possible to hold 11 face-to-face participatory assemblies, involving 125 people.
In total, the proposals gathered 2301 votes, with 1173 people voting only once and 564 voting twice.
