Luis Lajarín wins Tour of Loulé

Young cyclist from the Valverde Team/Ricardo Fuentes was also the winner of the mountain award and the classification of the first year juniors

Luis Lajarín, from the Valverde Team/Ricardo Fuentes, won the 28th Tour of the Municipality of Loulé, which took place between Thursday, the 6th, and today, Saturday, the 8th of April.

In the last stage, held today, the fastest to cover the 109 kilometers was José Moreira (Silva & Vinha/ADRAP/Sentir Penafiel).

José Moreira and Luis Lajarín, both first-year juniors, reached the finish line in 2h54m36s, with the Portuguese winning the run against the Spaniard, but with the latter having an advantage in the general classification. Third was Álvaro Ruiz (Team Junior Ciudad de Talavera), at 1m01s.

«The 109 kilometres, marked by constant ups and downs, were expected to change the general classification, completely dominated by the Spaniards from the Valverde Team/Ricardo Fuentes, after yesterday's collective time trial. And that's what ended up happening, in a race that changed the yellow jersey at each stage», according to the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

In today's stage, which started and ended in Loulé, passing through Barranco do Velho, «the peloton was completely divided into groups, with the first large group being 1m17s behind the fastest duo of the day».

 

 

With these results, Luis Lajarín was crowned winner of the Volta ao Concelho de Loulé, displacing his teammate Luis López from the top of the standings. José Moreira finished in second position, 42 seconds behind, and Diego Aparicio (Valverde Team/Ricardo Fuentes) closed the podium, 55 seconds ahead of the winner.

Before fighting for the general position, «in the most demanding phase of the stage, Luis Lajarín was one of the animators of the first kilometers, adding points to secure the victory in the mountain classification, which he would later achieve, making the young Spaniard the overall winner. , the mountain and also the classification of juniors of the first year».

The only victory that escaped the big winner of the day was in the points, which went to his teammate Antonio Arias.

By teams, the Valverde Team/Ricardo Fuentes prevailed, who returned to Spain with all the classifications in their luggage.
