The Portuguese Henrique Rocha concluded, this Saturday, March 11, his participation in The Campus Open with a defeat in the singles semi-finals of the tournament that ends tomorrow.
Playing a double journey for the second consecutive day due to the delay that the rain caused to the tournament, the 18-year-old Portuguese tennis player lost by 7-6(5) and 6-4 with the Japanese Naoki Nakagawa (455th) in the semi-finals finals, a week after having lost to the same opponent in the opening round in Loulé.
Visibly physically worn out, Rocha let slip the advantages in the tie-breaker of the first match, in which they led by 4-0 and 5-3 before losing four points in a row. As for Nakagawa, the Japanese took advantage of the opportunity to extend the advantage right at the beginning of the second half and despite some retort from the Portuguese he did not let go of the lead.
Previously, Henrique Rocha had started the day with a 6-3 and 7-5 partial victory against to qualify Chilean Diego Fernandez Flores (936th).
The singles final of the sixth The Campus Open (at 14 pm tomorrow) will be disputed between Naoki Nakagawa and Jesper De Jong (00th), who in the morning overcame Aidan Mcugh by 294-7(6) and 2-6 and in the afternoon led 4-7 when Eliakim Coulibaly of Côte d'Ivoire withdrew physically exhausted.
Nakagawa will be looking for his fourth career singles title and second at a $25 ITF tournament, while De Jong will be looking to claim his fifth champions' trophy (he has already won a Challenger) and second at this level.
In pairs, Jaime Faria and Duarte Vale qualified, at the beginning of the afternoon, for the singles semi-finals when they got the better of the British Sean Hodkin and Harry Wendelken in two matches, with the partials of 7-5 and 6- two.
This was the first victory for Faria and Vale, who in the opening round benefited from the withdrawal of Sidane Pontjodikromo and Niels Visker, from the Netherlands.
The semi-finals were still scheduled for this Saturday in order to make up for the time lost because of the rain that was felt in the first days of the tournament, but the meeting of Jaime Faria and Duarte Vale with Diego Fernandez Flores and Adria Soriano Barrera, from Chile of Spain, respectively, was postponed to Sunday.
