From Footvolley to Embarcada Fishing, Albufeira with a weekend full of sports

“This and other reasons were what led us to present the candidacy of Albufeira European City of Sport 2026”, says the mayor

“Albufeira Footvolley Cup 2022”, four Algarve Super Cups in Futsal and the 57th and 21st World Board Fishing Championships – Seniors and Juniors marked the last weekend in Albufeira.

The initiatives are, for José Carlos Rolo, «revealers of our dynamism». «This and other reasons was what led us to present the candidacy of Albufeira European City of Sport 2026», he stressed.

On the 24th and 25th, another edition of the “Albufeira Footvolley Cup 2022” took place, with some of the best national and international athletes.

The games of the group stage and the knockout stage took place throughout the 24th, with a view to the final determination, on the 25th. Spain was the
great winner of the championship, with the victory of Miquel Marin and Maxi Sosa, in second and third place on the podium was Portugal, with the
presence of two teams, consisting primarily of David Peres and Djalmir Andrade, and Fábio Murraças and David Dias. Spain stayed
also in fourth place, with athletes Mario Segura and Mario Barrera.

In parallel with the main event, the “Algarve Cup 4×4” took place, with four teams representing the Algarve clubs:
Immortal DC, FC de Ferreiras, FC 11 Esperanças and CRD Santaluziense. The big winner was FC Ferreiras/Arena Ataboeira in a
confrontation with the Immortal DC.

On Sunday, the Sports Pavilion also hosted four Algarve Super Cups in Futsal with the derby that featured four games, involving seven teams: Portimonense SC, GEJUPCE Portimão (beginners), UD Castromarinese, Sonâmbulos FLA (Youth), CF Boavista (Juniors), SRBU Parchalense and SC Farense (Seniors Women).

 

 

The first game of the day took place at 10:00 am, in a dispute between Portimonese Sporting Clube (SC) and GEJUPCE – Portimão, at the level of
initiates. The victory came from Portimonese by 8-1. At 12:30, the Juvenile category followed, with a victory awarded to Sonâmbulo Luzense
Association (FLA), which won the Desportiva (UD) Castromarinese, after the tiebreaker through the marking of penalties (2-2).

Regarding the third game, which took place at 16:00, Sonâmbulos (FLQA) was once again the winner, this time in the
juniors. The Club won the penalties (4-3), over Clube Futebol BoaVista. In the late afternoon, at 18:30, the
The last game related to the Supercup, referring to the Senior Women's category, was marked by the 5-1 victory of Sociedade Recreativa Boa – União (SRBU) against Sporting Clube Farense.

Still in Sports, Largo Eng.o Duarte Pacheco welcomed the teams from the 14 countries that make up the 57th and 21st
World of Boarded Fishing – Seniors and Juniors, respectively.

The Opening Ceremony was preceded by a Parade of teams from the participating countries, accompanied by the Fanfare of the Volunteer Firefighters of Albufeira and the children of Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

Carlos Vinagre, president of the Portuguese Federation of Sport Fishing of the High Seas, and Gilbert Zanguerlé, president of FIPS-M – Fédération Internationale de Pêche Sportive en Mer, praised the good collaboration of the Municipality. Finally, Attilio la Porta, secretary general of FIPS-M, declared the championships open, which will take place in Albufeira until the 1st of October.
