VRSA: Complaint leads to the seizure of 146 pieces of ivory

Objects were seized under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Wild Species (CITES)

A complaint through the Linha SOS Ambiente, for sale to the public of ivory pieces in a store, led the Environmental Protection Nucleus (NPA) of the GNR of Tavira to seize, on the 13th, 146 pieces in ivory, in the municipality of Vila Real de Saint Anthony.

The objects were seized under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Wild Species (CITES), which prohibits the sale of ivory.

The Territorial Command of Faro adds that, in the course of the police action, a 65-year-old man was identified.

The GNR, through its Service for the Protection of Nature and the Environment (SEPNA), has the protection of animals as its daily concern, appealing to the denunciation of situations of environmental scope.

For this purpose, the SOS Ambiente e Território Hotline (808 200 520) may be used, operating permanently to report infractions or clarify doubts.
