Initiatives start on the 10th

Cinema in Milreu, Concerts at Sunset and an exhibition. In September, from Sotavento to Barlavento, there is a lot to see and hear, in initiatives supported by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

The Roman Ruins of Milreu, in Estoi, will once again host open-air cinema sessions on the 10th, 17th and 24th of September, an initiative of Cinemalua – Cultural Association, within the scope of the 9th edition of DiVaM – Dynamization and Valorisation of Monuments.

“Cinema nas Ruínas” presents three cinematographic works integrated in this year’s theme “Heritage without borders”, with a program that addresses the theme of the oceans and the history of Portugal across borders, focusing on its maritime odyssey, and on the expansionist spirit of the Portuguese before the “border” of the sea.

The first session will take place on September 10, at 21:30 pm, with the film “Oceans”, by Jacques Perrin (2009). The following Saturday, the 17th, at the same time, “A Cordillera dos Sonhos” by Patricio Guzmán (2019) will be shown. The last session presents the film “A Viagem de Pedro”, by Laís Bodanzky (2021), on the 24th.

All sessions will be free, upon prior appointment online, and will be subject to a maximum capacity of 100 people, and tickets booked in advance must be picked up at the monument, between 21:00 pm and 21:20 pm. Unmarked or uncollected tickets will be made available on the day of the session, starting at 21:20 pm.

Also on the 10th of September, at the Tavira Municipal Market, the opening of the exhibition “Gentes do Mercado – Convivialidades, by UrbanSketchers Algarve” will take place at 9:30 am, held within the scope of the VIII Edition of the Mediterranean Diet Fair.

This is a project that results from an informal session of drawings made by UrbanSketchers Algarve around the gestures and dynamics of the Tavira Market.

In this context, a “Painting in the Market” workshop is also planned to be held on the same day, to be held between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm. Participation is free, but with mandatory registration, through: [email protected] (subject to capacity).

“Gentes do Mercado” is a project promoted by DRCAlg since 2018, in partnership with Resmalhar – Association for Local Sustainability and the International Association of Paremiology and also has the support of the Municipality of Tavira.

As part of the Mediterranean Diet Fair, the project's main objective is to promote the sociocultural dynamics of the Municipal Market of Tavira, valuing the people who make the market, as well as its fresh products, while transmitting the values ​​associated with the intangible cultural heritage. of the Mediterranean Diet.

As for the Fortaleza de Sagres, it will host the “Concertos ao Entardecer”, on the 11th, 18th and 25th of December, an initiative by ArQuente – Associação Cultural, supported by DRCAlg, which takes the music of Bia Maria, Bandua and Mateus Verde to one of the Algarve's most emblematic scenarios.

The concerts always take place at 18:00, and the first is this Sunday, the 11th, with Bia Maria.

On the 18th of September, he takes the stage at the Bandua Fortress. This project takes the popular songbook of the Beira Baixa region and faces it with an electronic folk reinterpretation.

The Algarve singer-songwriter Mateus Verde closes the “Concertos ao Entardecer”, on the 25th.
