Sardine fishing reopens on Monday

It is not allowed, on each day, to unload or offer sardines for sale beyond the limits indicated in the order.

Sardine fishing will reopen from Monday, May 2nd, according to order no. , of which around 5126 2022 tonnes for Portugal (29%).

According to the DGRM-Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services, the order determines that the 29.400 tonnes of sardine discharges captured with the art of siege by the Portuguese fleet, for the year 2022, must be divided between the group of vessels whose shipowners or owners are members of Producer Organizations (PO) recognized for sardines and the group of vessels whose shipowners or owners are not members of recognized POs for sardines, corresponding to each of the groups, respectively, 28.959 tons and 441 tons.

It is not permitted, on each day, to unload or sell sardines beyond the limits indicated in the current order, which may include a maximum of 495 kilos (22 baskets, when applicable) of sardines calibrated as T4, regardless of the existence of other size classes.

Thus, vessels with an overall length of less than or equal to 9 meters can catch 1.080 kilos (48 baskets, when applicable), those with a length greater than 9 m and less than or equal to 16 m can fish 2.160 kilos (96 baskets), while vessels longer than 16 meters can capture up to 3.240 kilograms (144 baskets).

DGRM is responsible for informing the POs, on the first Monday of each month, of the quantities already used.
