The President of the Republic spoke to the widow of Portuguese driver Eurico Ferro, who died on December 19 in Calais, France, to whom he expressed condolences, the Palácio de Belém announced this Friday.

In his conversation with his widow, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed his “heartfelt condolences”, having also transmitted “the information collected by the consular authorities”, as can be read in the note published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic.

The head of state also sent his condolences to the Vila Real de Santo António Fire Department, to which the victim belonged.

The funeral of 48-year-old driver and firefighter Eurico Ferro will take place at 15:30 pm this Saturday, the 8th, at the Cacela Velha cemetery, informs the Vila Real de Santo António Fire Department, on its Facebook page.

The Portuguese truck driver died on the night of 19 December, at the Epitre service station, near the French city of Calais, after alleged clashes with three migrants who allegedly climbed aboard his truck illegally to cross the border with the Kingdom. United.

According to the French media, the migrants allegedly attacked the Portuguese driver, who then entered the cabin of the truck and ended up having a heart attack.

The driver was rescued at the scene by firefighters, but died. The migrants and alleged attackers fled the scene.

The French police are now investigating the case, having already disclosed that the Portuguese driver had informed the authorities of the presence of migrants in his truck, before the incident that led to his death.
