Workshop at GAMA RAMA gallery teaches how to make picture postcards

The participation, limited to six participants, costs 40 euros, with material included

An illustrated postcards workshop “Tipography and engraving” takes place this Saturday, December 18, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm, at the GAMA RAMA gallery, in Faro.

«In this workshop, we will dedicate ourselves to the most democratic and traveled format of all: the postcard. There, we will explore and print two graphic information, one with the typographic composition of movable characters and the other with the linocut technique», says the organization.

«For such an undertaking, we will have to dig like an archaeologist, compose like a musician, stretch paint with a baker, and pull our ears in the press like an oarsman. The types (the letters, understandably) will be made of lead and wood, the “excavated” matrix will be in linoleum», he adds.

Participants can bring ideas or improvise something on the fly. At the end, all participants will have a set of postcards.

The workshop will be given by Elias Gato, who grew up in Castro Marim.

He has a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and a Master's in Teaching Visual Arts in the 3rd and Secondary Cycles. Professionally, he works as a teacher and illustrator. He is also a graphic printer, writer and editor at his fictional publishing house Edições Punhefla, and trainer at Estação das Artes, in S. Bartolomeu, Castro Marim.

The participation, limited to six participants, costs 40 euros, with material included.

Applications can be made by email ([email protected]) until December 16th.
