Loulé transforms the former corner workers' house into an outpost of Civil Protection in Caldeirão

Work will cost 350 thousand euros plus VAT

The former house of the corner workers of Vale Maria Dias, in the parish of Salir, in the middle of Serra do Caldeirão, will be remodeled and expanded with a view to transforming it into the base of the Loulé Municipal Civil Protection Advanced Unit.

«It is thus intended to bring together in this space several areas, such as the operationalization of a Command Post, logistical support for Civil Protection operations, headquarters of forest sappers, space for training in the field of defense of the forest against fire and temporary shelter for the population in the case, for example, of a forest fire that results in displaced people», according to the City Council of Loulé.

The remodeling and expansion works include «the complete replacement of the roof structure of the existing building, the internal remodeling to create the various work spaces, construction of an annex building for changing rooms and storage, as well as exterior adjustments in the surrounding land».

The work has an estimated cost of 350 thousand euros plus VAT and is expected to take eight months.

Loulé Council recalled that "over the last few decades, the vast forest area of Serra do Caldeirão has been buffeted by fires that have destroyed part of that natural heritage of the Algarve."

"Thus, considering the strategic location of this building, the investment in adapting the building falls within the scope of the forest fire planning and prevention measures adopted by the Municipality of Loulé, with the aim of ensuring greater and better safety conditions for the populations of the county and this natural territory but also to the civil protection agents who work here», concluded the autarchy.
