The Chamber of Lagos it will renew its support for the Sailing Sports Training Center (CFD) of the Júlio Dantas School Group, which operates in the context of School Sports, and finance the purchase of kayaks, in order to diversify the activities provided to students.
In all, 2600 euros will be channeled to this centre, created under a protocol between the Municipality of Lagos, the Júlio Dantas School Group and the Lagos Sailing Club and which has been in operation for five years.
The amount will be applied “in the purchase of five individual kayaks and respective paddles”.
"These equipment will make it possible to diversify the type of activities practiced by the students, also providing them with an awareness of the practice of canoeing, an especially interesting alternative on days when there is little wind when sailing becomes more difficult", explained the Câmara de Lagos .
"In addition to enriching the students in terms of activities in contact with the sea and nature, this diversification of activities also aims to respond and adapt the project to the new hygiene and safety rules imposed by the pandemic," added the municipality.
Last school year, "289 students from the 4th year (1st cycle) from public schools from both school groups in the municipality" participated in this project.
“In terms of regular activities, the Sailing Sports Training Center monitored weekly teams made up of 27 students from the 5th to the 11th grade”, added the Câmara de Lagos.
This support to CFD de Vela,« despite not being a direct responsibility of the municipality, falls within the scope of its Strategic Plan for Sport Development, which focuses on the consolidation and strengthening of partnerships between the municipality, schools, clubs and companies, with a view to the promotion and development of modalities which can be practiced outdoors (sea and countryside), in direct contact with nature and taking advantage of the municipality's excellent conditions».
