«90 million years ago… the birds remained!» is the title of the activity, linking geology to biology, and which will lead participants to discover Ponta do Telheiro, in Sagres, as part of the Ciência Viva no Verão program. The two outings are scheduled for the 11th and 25th of August and The prior registration is mandatory.

The activities are promoted by Lagos Living Science Center and count on the collaboration of the Algarve Nucleus of the League for Nature Protection (LPN Algarve), through biologist and ornithologist Filipe Bally Jorge.

This action will be guided by Beatriz Tomás Oliveira, from CCVL and DPGA (Association for the Defense and Dissemination of the Geological Heritage of Alentejo and Algarve), and by Filipe Bally Jorge, from LPN Algarve.

To reach Ponta do Telheiro, participants must take a walk along the magnificent cliffs of the southwest coast.

This entire region has a high ornithological interest, particularly in the period of post-nuptial migration, which begins during the month of August.

In this area, which borders the sea, many birds gather here, looking for food and rest, to once again undertake their journeys between northern Europe and the African continent.

Ponta do Telheiro is world famous due to the way a part of the planet's history is written in its rocks.

The surface of the disagreement underlines the geological time gap between the Paleozoic and the Triassic, that is, more than 90 million years have disappeared from the geological record. It is estimated that continental crust about 4 kilometers thick will have been eroded.

This is all that you will discover on these two tours, open to everyone (over 8 years old) and free of charge. But registration is mandatory!
