Social and health transport in Castro Marim is now carried out in electric vehicles

This is one of the decarbonization measures that the Chamber of Castro Marim is betting on

The social and health transport provided by the Chamber of Castro Marim will now be made with 100% electric vehicles.

These are, according to the municipality, «two essential services aimed at the population of the interior of the municipality and with a huge impact on their quality of life».

In the case of the “Castro Marim Mais Perto” social transport, the service “allows the population to travel, free of charge, to any of the county's parishes – Castro Marim, Altura, Azinhal and Odeleite –, ending up also ensuring access to the Health centers".

There is also «the daily transport of users to the Hospital de Faro for specialist consultations and/or other treatments”, according to the Chamber of Castro Marim.

This bet on electric vehicles to guarantee this service is part of the municipality's decarbonization and energy efficiency strategy.

«This is one of the visible measures that result from a study on the regular circuits and market solutions that the municipality of Castro Marim started two years ago and which is supported by the Environmental Fund, within the scope of the Support Program for Electric Mobility in Public Administration , which contributes 50% of the financial leasing of these electric vehicles, as well as the acquisition and installation of a semi-rapid charging station for these vehicles from the Municipality», according to the municipality.

«At the same time, and without support of any kind, the Castro Marim City Council is currently proceeding with a process aimed at the acquisition of two more 100% electric vehicles, this time with low autonomy and intended for external municipal services, in particular those for inspection. , water supply and wastewater treatment, as they are services with defined schedules, limited routes, capable of coordinating with the loading times and autonomy of vehicles of this nature," he added.

However, for the public, the village of Castro Marim, next to Casa do sal, already has the first Normal Charging Post (PCN) in operation and “another one will soon come into operation, next to the Mercado de Altura”.

«The installation of this equipment was made possible thanks to a protocol signed between the municipality, the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) and Turismo de Portugal, within the scope of a national program which aims to provide all municipalities in the country with infrastructure. electric charging», revealed the Chamber of Castro Marim.

Also with a view to encouraging decarbonisation, the City Council is betting on the construction of cycle path networks, «in particular the one that is configured as a cycling triangle between Vila Real de Santo António, Castro Marim and Altura, the first section of which is yet to be inaugurated. this month and that later, in a 2nd phase, a public lighting project will be developed, exclusively from solar energy».
