Vila do Bispo is one of the Algarve's counties where the price per square meter of houses is more expensive.

The average value of bank valuation of housing in Vila do Bispo in 2018 was 1.639 euros per square meter, 447 euros higher than the national average, according to data from Pordata on that municipality in the Algarve. Sul Informação had access.

At a regional level, the Costa Vicentina municipality is the one with the fourth highest housing price per square meter, after Albufeira (1790 €/m2), Loulé (1765 €/m2) and Lagos (1704 €/m2 ). Still in the field of housing, the data from by date indicate that classic households only increased by 3,3% from 2010 to 2018, having risen from 1585 to 1639.

Much higher was the rate of increase in the number of tourist accommodations, which rose 64,3%, from 10 to 28, in eight years.

With its 5.158 inhabitants, the westernmost municipality in the Algarve has 30,2% of resident foreigners. In other words, for every 100 inhabitants, 30 are foreigners. This is even the highest rate of foreign residents in all 16 Algarve municipalities, closely followed by Albufeira's 30,1%.

And, despite having 26,5% elderly and only 12,5% ​​young people under 15 years old, the truth is that, from 2010 to 2018, the number of births rose from 35 to 48. the national numbers, which indicate that, in those eight years, births have fallen across the country.

This increase in babies will be no stranger to the rise in the number of marriages (74,62% more in eight years), which went from 17 to 67. Interestingly, the number of divorces fell: from 13 to 10.

Still regarding the population, Vila do Bispo had, in 2018, 566 students enrolled in pre-school, primary and secondary education (in this case, studying outside the municipality, as the town does not have a secondary school).

Pordata data also indicate that, for every 100 residents aged 15 or over, there are 37 pensions awarded by Social Security and Caixa Geral de Aposentações.

In the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in 2018, there were 144 unemployed people registered in employment centers (4,6% of the resident population aged 15 to 64), less than those registered in 2010 (175).

As for people benefiting from Social Insertion Income, there was a drastic fall of 94,5% – from 127 beneficiaries in 2010 to 17 in 2017.

With regard to equipment, and according to Pordata, the municipality of Vila do Bispo has two pharmacies and two bank branches (one less than ten years ago). The biggest was the decrease in ATMs, which went from 12 to 8.

Regarding the activity of the Vila dos Bispo Council, in addition to a positive financial balance of over 59 thousand euros, the municipality continues to allocate 7% of its expenses to the Environment, an amount identical to the national average.

Vila-Bispensian citizens have followed this interest: urban waste selectively collected per inhabitant increased from 347,9 kilos per inhabitant, in 2010, to 660,8 kilos, in 2018. This is an average collection much higher than the national one, which figure 103,5 kilos. A discrepancy that has to do with the fact that Vila do Bispo is a tourist municipality in the Algarve where, in addition to the resident population, there is an important floating population, of tourists, especially in summer.

Less encouraging are the expenses of the Vila do Bispo Chamber destined to Culture and Sports, which in 2018 were only 3%, against 7% eight years earlier. Despite this break, Vila do Bispo started to have a Museum, something that, at the beginning of the last decade, it did not have.
