EDP installs 26 thousand LED luminaires in 15 municipalities in the Algarve

Replacement will cost more than 3 million euros

EDP Distribuição is replacing 26 «obsolete, with mercury vapor and high-pressure sodium vapor technologies» with LED luminaires in 15 municipalities in the Algarve.

The ongoing campaign will require the company to make a global investment of over three million euros and is carried out within the scope of the Low Voltage Electricity Concession and Distribution Contract signed between the company and the Algarve authorities.

LED luminaires “provide conditions of visual comfort, safety of people and goods and reduced maintenance needs, in an increasingly sustainable way”.

"It is estimated that, by the end of this year, this campaign will contribute to an annual saving of more than 780 thousand euros in the energy bill of the municipalities covered and a reduction in the ecological footprint, by about 3.500 tons of CO2 per year", according to EDP Distribution.

The company adds that this bet is part of its «strategy to modernize the distribution network and adopt new technologies, essential to the energy transition and decarbonisation, in line with the Government's National Energy and Climate Plan, reinforcing the commitment of the Companies and Municipalities in energy efficiency and in the intelligent management of networks, with a clear improvement in the quality of service».
