Sidewalks bring art back to the center of São Brás de Alportel

This is the sixth edition of this event that aims to boost the historic center of São Brás

Music, dance, street entertainment, artistic creations, gastronomy and local products come together, once again, in the heart of São Brás de Alportel, for another edition of the event “Calçadas, a arte leaves the street”, which will take place tomorrow, the 14th, in the streets and alleys of the historic center of this town.

The schedule of the sixth edition of this initiative of the City Council of São Brás de Alportel includes 14 moments, spread over 7 different spaces.

Al-fanfarre will play at 20:30 pm at Largo de São Sebastião. At the same time, the Churchyard Stage of the Igreja Matriz is once again the meeting point for dance, with performances by the Municipal Dance School of São Brás de Alportel and the Algarve Dance Company.

In the alternative space “À do Calçadas”, in the courtyard of the former Episcopal Palace, from 21:15 pm, Rattle N Strum, Beatrice and DJ Solitaire will perform.

The Praça Velha Stage opens at 21 pm and will feature performances by the fado singer Argentina Freire, by the group Campaniças do Mira (traditional) and also moments of hilarious comedy with Jorge Serafim

On the Vila Adentro Stage, «where very special moments are always reserved, the entertainment starts at 21:30 pm with performances by BigSix (rock), The Wax Flamingos (blues/rock) and the long-awaited performance of the group Quem é o Bob? (reggae), a tribute to Bob Marley?”, according to the São Brasense autarchy.

The little ones have their special corner in the Municipal Library, with two short story sessions with the Itinerant Troubadours, at 21 pm and 30 pm, in addition to many face paintings.

«And to maintain the tradition, at the 12 chimes, at Calçadinha, it's time to listen to “Histórias de Arrepiar”, by Maria José Carocinho and Fernando Guerreiro», adds the Chamber.

Visitors can also visit the exhibitions “Os Beginnings”, by Jolita Yamuna, and “Subnigrum: Fronteira”, by Ana Vieira Ribeiro, which are on display at the Centro de Artes e Ofícios, the result of a partnership established with the Zero Museum.

The population of São Brás de Alportel also joins the party and will fight for the title “The Most Beautiful Window”.

«This free-entry event, with activities for the whole family, invites you to enjoy art at every step on the sidewalks of the Historic Center of São Brasense», summarized the Chamber.

This is an initiative integrated in the Historic Center Revitalization Plan, promoted by the São Brás de Alportel City Council in partnership with the “Calçadas Organizing Commission”, an informal group of the São Brasense community.
