Portimão: GNR seizes 910 kilos of sardines for over-fishing

Masters can pay fines up to €37.500

910 kilos of sardines, with an estimated value of 4500 euros, were seized, for over-capture, today, 8 August, at the auction in Portimão, by the GNR Coastal Control Detachment of Olhão.

"As part of a surveillance action aimed at professional fishing, the military verified that the legally established daily limits for the capture of sardines had been exceeded, a measure that aims to ensure the sustainability of the species", explains the GNR, in a note sent to essays.

The masters of the vessels have been identified and may have to pay fines that can reach 37.500 euros.
