Found body of a fisherman who fell into the estuary in Santa Luzia

Searches lasted all night

The body of a 69-year-old fisherman who fell into the Ria Formosa, last night, in Santa Luzia, was found this morning by a local vessel, near the Sopursal salt pans, in Tavira.

According to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), the Maritime Police of Tavira received an alert informing them that a man had fallen into the water at the Santa Luzia fishing pier, in Ria Formosa, yesterday, Monday, around 22:40.

"The resources of the Maritime Police and the Tavira Lifesaving Station were immediately mobilized and the collaboration of the Tavira Volunteer Firefighters was requested to carry out searches in order to locate and rescue the man, which lasted overnight," he revealed.

A man's body was found today, lifeless, by a local vessel. Later, he was «transported to the Forensic Medicine Center of Faro, the Maritime Police psychologist is currently in contact with the victim's relatives».
