The Maritime Police of the South and ANACOM detected nine vessels with irregularities in their communication systems, between 5 and 8 September, as part of an inspection operation on fishing and maritime-tourist boats operating in the ports of Olhão, Quarteira/ Vilamoura, Portimão and Lagos.

According to the Maritime Authority, 32 boats were inspected and the irregular situations detected were due to the lack of valid certification and use of unauthorized frequencies.

"This operation aimed to combat radio interference that affects not only the private channels of the Maritime Authority's Communications System, but also countless frequencies of the Maritime Mobile, Aeronautical Mobile and Land Mobile Services, which often originate in stations installed on board the vessels”, explains the Maritime Authority.

In addition to ANACOM elements, the local Commands of the Maritime Police of Olhão were also involved in the operation. Faro, Portimão and Lagos.

The Maritime Authority says that due to "the work that has been developed in recent years in this type of inspections, there is a decrease in violations in this area, verifying that operators are more aware of compliance with the rules in this area".
