VRSA celebrates 50 years of the 25th of April with exhibitions, poetry and Ricardo Ribeiro

The celebrations begin on April 24th

Vila Real de Santo António will mark 50 years of the 25th of April with exhibitions, poetry, a concert by Ricardo Ribeiro and the traditional solemn session.

The celebrations begin on April 24th, with a concert by fado singer Ricardo Ribeiro, at 22pm, in Praça Marquês de Pombal.

On April 25th, the festivities begin with the Raising of the Flag and a musical parade – with the Philharmonic Band of the VRSA Cultural Association – in the three parishes of the municipality. Also in the morning there will be space for the “freedom races” and the painting of April murals.

At 11 am, the solemn session of the Municipal Assembly of Vila Real de Santo António commemorating Freedom Day will take place at the Centro Cultural António Aleixo.

The activities on the 25th of April end with a dance performance led by Nelson Santos, at 22pm, on Avenida Marginal, in Monte Gordo.

Throughout the month of April, the program offers a variety of activities for all tastes and ages. Highlights include the documentary exhibition «A Palavra Proibida», at the Vicente Campinas Municipal Library, displaying works prohibited during the dictatorship, and the exhibition «25 de Abril em VRSA: Memories of the Revolution», at the António Rosa Mendes Municipal Historical Archive, which portrays memories of the Revolution.

On the 14th of April, a workshop with the artist Miguel Martinho invites the public to explore the art of posters related to the 25th of April, at the CIIPC, in Santa Rita.

The program also includes a gathering on art, words and freedom of expression, on the 23rd, and the presentation of the book «Margens Livres. 50 years of freedom. Anthology of Vila Real poets», at the Vicente Campinas Municipal Library, on May 3rd.

Also noteworthy is the children's concert «Mais Alto», aimed at 1st cycle students, at Praça Marquês de Pombal, on April 22nd, at 10 am, which will celebrate democracy through music.
