Interpretive trails, fauna observation and environmental volunteer activities: the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), through the Regional Directorate for the Conservation of Nature and Forests of the Algarve, will promote, between the 15th and 20th of April, the seventh edition of Semana da Ria Formosa.
The initiative, which has the support of several partners, is aimed at schools and the general public, promoting activities in the municipalities of Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António.
The initiative is dedicated to raising environmental awareness in the municipalities covered by the Ria Formosa Natural Park (PNRF), aiming at “the pedagogical sharing of experiences with the local community and visitors and, at the same time, the development of activities on the natural values of this important wetland and its biodiversity, where many economic activities are supported, such as tourism, sport, fishing, salt production and seafood", says the ICNF.
In addition to the interpretative trails, fauna observation and environmental volunteer activities, three exhibitions will be on display: one at Ria Shopping (Olhão) on the issue of invasive exotic species; another at Escola Básica 2,3 D. José I (Vila Real de Santo António) with the artistic project LIXARTE; and, finally, at the Algarve Maria Campina Regional Conservatory Faro, “The Water and the Sea for me”.
Through this project, and in alignment with the Ria Formosa Natural Park Co-management Plan, the ICNF intends to “stimulate partnerships with the local community, public and private entities and associations, and contribute to a society with people committed and active in protecting and restoration of ecosystems that sustain life and human activities».
In 2023, Ria Formosa Week had more than 1600 participants.
