São Brás de Alportel issues a vote of condolence for the death of Manuel Caetano

A reference in the carob sector died on March 16

The executive of São Brás de Alportel issued today a vote of condolence for the death of Manuel Caetano, a major reference in the carob sector, who died March 16th, at 87 years old. 

Born in Bias do Sul, Moncarapacho, Manuel Silo da Graça Caetano started very early, at the age of 18, working in the carob processing industry in Faro, at Indal and, more recently, at Industrial Farense, having later become known as “Mister Alfarroba”.

«The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel had the privilege of having one of the most knowledgeable men about carob in the world, having been godfather of the Feira da Serra, in the 2008 and 2018 editions, editions that had carob as the featured product. Occasions in which his knowledge, experience and vision made a huge contribution to the growth of the initiative», he says in a note.

The municipality also emphasizes that «the news of his death was received with sadness and the vote of condolence issued by the Municipality also aims to recognize his uniqueness, genius, vision and great contribution to regional economic development and the national and international recognition of the Algarve ».

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel conveys its fraternal condolences to family, friends and the Alfarroba Industrial Association.
