Final results of the Bio-Ilhas project presented in Olhão

this friday

The final results of the Bio-Ilhas project will be presented tomorrow, April 12th, at the Municipal Library of Olhão, in a session where the children's book “Pompoms with legs and curious children”, written by João Tiago Tavares, will also be launched.

The session begins at 9:30 am with the launch of the book, which features a moment of reading led by the author.

“Pompoms with legs and curious children” «depicts the first encounter of a boy with salt birds, who learns more about the ecology of these birds, their main threats and how to protect them», according to Associação Vita Nativa – Conservation do Ambiente, which promoted the project.

This will be followed at 10:30 am by the presentation of the results of Bio-Ilha, a project whose main objective is to “improve the nesting conditions of bird species that nest in salt marshes and marshes. Through habitat conservation actions, the installation of artificial islands and the protection of nests, Bio-Ilhas promoted the nesting of chirrels, avocets, ringed plovers and sea partridges».

Bio-Ilhas was funded by the Viridia Association – Conservation in Action, whose partners were ICNF – Regional Directorate for the Conservation of Nature and Forests of the Algarve, Águas do Algarve, Necton – Companhia Portuguesa de Culturas Marinhas, and the Salinas do Grelha – Secrets of the Ria.

The children's book “Pompoms with legs and curious children” was born as a result of this conservation project. This book portrays a boy's first encounter with saline birds, who learns more about the ecology of these birds, their main threats and how to protect them.
