Preventive detention for woman linked to kidnapping of elderly person in Almancil

Kidnapping took place on August 24, 2023

A 32-year-old woman, linked to the kidnapping of an 82-year-old man, in August last year, in Almancil, who would eventually be taken to Barcelona, ​​was arrested and will be held in preventive detention, announced this Saturday, April 13, the Judicial Police (PJ). 

This arrest comes after, in December last year, Seven men and two women involved in this crime have also been arrested. 

For those detained in Spanish territory, aged between 21 and 43, with a criminal record for theft crimes in Spain, the coercion measure of preventive detention was also applied.

And, in relation to the kidnapping in Almancil, what crime are we talking about?

According to the PJ, everything happened on August 24, 2023.

On that day, the elderly man, subjected to extortion, suffered "violent attacks and threats, using firearms" and was robbed of 100 thousand euros, "through transfers from the victim's bank accounts to various destination accounts opened by the suspects using false documentation”.

After the robbery, the man was taken to Barcelona, ​​where he was “trapped in a tree, in a deserted place”. The objective was for him not to be found, but the octogenarian managed to free himself. The injuries resulted in the need to receive hospital treatment in Spain.

Furthermore, cooperation between the Portuguese and Spanish authorities «made it possible to identify the suspects in the crime of kidnapping and an extensive money laundering network that extends to several European countries, with the nerve center in Spain».

The searches carried out in December last year resulted in the seizure of significant evidence, namely a firearm, replicas of firearms used in criminal actions, as well as material intended for counterfeiting and falsifying identification documents and, also, false documentation.

Two Portuguese-registered vehicles that had been stolen were also recovered.
