Maritime Police seize boa clams and fishing gear in Fuzeta

People who engaged in illegal harvesting fled

26 kilos of boa clams and nine “ganchorras” were seized yesterday, the 4th, by the Maritime Police, during a patrol and inspection action aimed at the practice of fishing activity with trawl gear in the Ria Formosa, in the Arroteia area, in Fuzeta, municipality of Olhão.

During this action, three people were detected, who fled when they saw the Maritime Police approaching, abandoning the nine fishing gear and the bivalves at the scene.

«The respective report was prepared, and the fishing gear was seized, as a precautionary measure, as it had prohibited dimensions and characteristics, as well as the 26 kilos of bivalves, which, as they were still alive, were returned to their habitat natural», according to the National Maritime Authority.

Five members of the Olhão Maritime Police Local Command participated in this action, supported by two vehicles and a 4×4 motorcycle.
