“Mochila” returns to base and invades Faro with cultural diversity

Fourth edition of “Mochila” takes place between the 16th and 26th of May

MOCHILA – International Theater Festival for Children and Young People will, in this fourth edition, take to various parts of the city of Faro, between the 16th and 26th of May, the “cultural diversity” that has characterized it since the beginning.

Born in 2021, this festival, whose main objectives are “promoting the decentralization of cultural offerings; the democratization of access to quality multidisciplinary artistic programming made up of renowned national and international companies and artists; and, also, the training of the public and communities to develop critical thinking about the contemporary world», once again “invades” the Algarve capital.

After in the last edition the program was distributed across the cities of Faro, Lagos and Loulé, this year, “Mochila” “returns to base”, concentrating all its activities in the “cradle city” and passing through Culatra Island.

Ao Sul Informação, João de Brito, artistic director of LAMA Teatro, which organizes “Mochila”, reveals that «the basis of the festival will be the same, but with very different programming and offers», especially with regard to parallel activities.

As usual, there will be cultural mediation actions, namely “Gang das Mochilas”, a project involving young people of school age, or “ESTOJO – Laboratório Pedagógico do LAMA Teatro”, an initiative that involves the participation of members of the community residing in the region from the Algarve.

«We continue to highlight what is happening in the Algarve and, therefore, we will have the “Baile for parents and children”, promoted by Camada, the “Tropical Ball”, by Miguel Neto/Discossauro, which closes the festival, and the concert by students from the Escola de Música Moderna do Sul at ARC Os Músicos», highlights João de Brito.

Jardim da Alameda will also be the stage for a “Pic-Nic of stories” told by Algarve interpreters.

In this fourth edition, the cycle of conversations continues, «a moment that promotes the exchange of ideas and visions between participants from different backgrounds», with artistic education as its motto.

João de Brito also highlights proposals in the area of theater, new circus, performance and music, including the Lena D´Água concert, at Teatro Lethes.

«The investment in national and international companies also continues», highlights the artistic director.

The program includes shows from companies such as Formiga Atómica, Ball 17, Fértil cultural, Mãozorra, Manuel Henriques, Rosinda Costa, Teatro Mosca and LAMA Teatro, among others.

The international dimension is ensured by “Pelat” by Joan Català (ES); “Tartana”, by Trocos Lucos (ES) and Bufa i Rebufa, by Cia Enlaire (ES).

«Last year we had four thousand spectators, but this year the expectation is that we will be able to double that number», concludes João de Brito.

The official launch of the “Mochila” program is scheduled for May 9th. The locations and times of the shows can then be consulted here
