The improvement works at the Cónego Joaquim Jorge de Sousa nursing home, in Torre Natal (Faro), are already completed, announced the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Faro.

The project, which lasted around 9 months, cost 414 thousand euros, with financing from PARES 3.0 [Social Equipment Network Expansion Program].

With this work, the Administrative Board believes that «the home building has become more modern and functional, with the requalification of 28 rooms, their respective bathrooms, including new sanitary ware, coverings, flooring and air conditioning».

In addition, «work was carried out to create new access to the facilities, prioritizing accessibility for people with reduced mobility and improvements were made to the electrical network».

The working conditions of employees were also modernized, and they now have better means of promoting active and healthy aging practices, as well as improving the health care provided to users.

For the Administrative Board, this is «the happy ending of a long process that began in 2019, but which was never allocated any public financing fund to carry it out».

After these years, he adds, «the grant came, but the costs of the project also rose a lot, making our Institution's investment much higher».

ERPI Cónego Joaquim Jorge de Sousa has been in existence for almost 30 years. It consists of 5 houses, a building, with two floors and has a total capacity that has increased from 58 to 64 users.

In the outdoor space there is a garden that allows users and families to stroll and enjoy close contact with nature.

There is also a chapel on the ERPI premises, which was built to allow residents, who so wish, to continue their religious activities.
