Cerro do Castelo de Alferce viewpoint opened with arbutus tree

New equipment is located next to the archaeological site

The viewpoint at Cerro da Castelo de Alferce, in the Monchique mountains, will be inaugurated on Saturday, the 20th, at 11:30 am, with a “medronho de honor”.

The initiative is part of the celebrations of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, as the viewpoint is located next to the archaeological site of the Islamic castle of Alferce.

Open to everyone, the inauguration begins with the gathering of participants, at 10 am, in the parking lot of the archaeological site, located next to the Odelouca/Alferce road.

The initiative is also carried out within the scope of the “Rotas, Trilhos e Veredas” Project, since the new viewpoint marks the end (or the beginning) of the trail that uses the walkway and the suspension bridge over Barranco do Demo.

In fact, the new structure offers a privileged view over the Monchique mountains, the Odelouca dam and the coast of the Barlavento Algarvio.

Its construction is part of the work to enhance the entire Alferce Castle hill, where it has been taking place, since 2020, archaeological excavations.

The Alferce Castle Viewpoint comes as a result of the CICCA – Centro Interpretativo do Cerro do Castelo do Alferce and Passadiço do Barranco do Demo, initiatives of the Alferce Parish Council, with the support of the Municipality of Monchique.
