São Brasense soldier was honored by the municipality

The soldier joined the Portuguese Navy in 2004

First Sergeant Filipe Marques was honored, this Wednesday, April 11th, by the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, where he is from, due to his participation in the Atalanta mission.

The soldier joined the Portuguese Navy in 2004. Throughout his career, Filipe Marques highlights boarding the ships NRP João Belo and the NRP Vasco da Gama.

In 2010, his career in the Navy took him to the submariner course.

The first submarine in which he worked was on the NRP Arpão, but it is on board the submarine NRP Tridente that highlights one of the moments of his career due to his participation in missions in the Mediterranean, within the scope of NATO, having had the opportunity to visit several countries .

However, he says that life aboard a submarine can sometimes become difficult, particularly the difficulty in contact with the outside world and long periods submerged.

«The praise given praises the soldier's mission spirit and exemplary path of altruism, as part of his participation in Operation Atalanta 2023, as an operator in the Operations Center», says the Navy.

The Atalanta Mission aimed to guarantee the safety of navigation, through the fight against piracy, as well as the protection of the ships of the world food program (WFP) the largest humanitarian organization in the world that works in emergency situations and food assistance.​
