Loulé promotes conference on the history of Bairro Operário

It is a neighborhood that, almost 80 years later, is undergoing expansion and redevelopment work.

The Municipality of Loulé will promote, on the 20th of April, at 15 pm, the conference “The Frederico Ulrich Municipal Neighborhood within the scope of the Arquitetura Aqui project”, integrated in the “LOULÉ on the timeline” cycle.

The conference will be presented by Tânia Rodrigues, at the Municipal Archive of Loulé Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães.

Loulé was one of the locations covered by DL no. 34.486, of April 6, 1945, which, in that year, received assistance from the State for the construction of housing for families in the municipality with low resources.

The construction of the neighborhood, designed by Loulé architect Manuel Laginha, with an urbanization project by civil engineer Silveira Ramos, was the first municipal initiative within the scope of Social Housing, in the years 1948-50.

According to the municipality, under the “Houses for Poor Families” program, Manuel Laginha designed a set of 50 single-story houses that stands out, among other aspects, for the absence of a central square.
