«A fascinating journey into the prehistoric world of Brazil’s dinosaurs». This is what promises the lecture by Professor Ismar Souza Carvalho, a world-renowned paleontologist with a vast academic career, this Wednesday, April 3rd, starting at 18:30 pm, at the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos.

The motivation for Professor Ismar Carvalho to come to Lagos is clear.

«My main motivation is to visit the Centro Ciência Viva in Lagos. The education and dissemination activities of the different Ciência Viva Centers are a great international reference for the popularization of sciences,” she says.

Ismar Souza Carvalho also comes to the Algarve to share scientific knowledge.

«Our geological history is connected through Atlantic relations. The origin of the Atlantic appears as an extremely important event for extinction and evolution events that equally affected Portuguese and Brazilian faunas. Furthermore, we have some Late Cretaceous marine fossils that belong to the same species. Another important aspect is the terrestrial fauna represented by dinosaur footprints, whose form of preservation are important elements for paleoenvironmental interpretation», he adds.

From this collaboration, the academic hopes «to be able to learn about the best practices for scientific dissemination through the model adopted by the Centro Ciência Viva Lagos and to enable partnerships with Casa da Ciência – UFRJ, an institution that promotes the popularization of Science in Rio de Janeiro» .
