Swiss elderly man rescued by the Air Force after suffering trauma off the Algarve

Man was taken to hospital

An 83-year-old Swiss man, who had suffered a traumatic brain injury, was rescued this Monday, April 8, from a passenger ship that was approximately 70 nautical miles, the equivalent of 130 kilometers, south of the Cabo de São Vicente, towards the port of Cádiz (Spain).

The request for assistance reached MRCC Lisboa through the Madrid Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC MADRID) which was contacted by the ship.

Immediately, as this was an urgent situation, the EH-101 aircraft of the Portuguese Air Force was committed to rescue and transport the passenger to the airport of Faro, where he was later taken to the hospital.
