Castro Marim advances with applications to build and rehabilitate more than 150 houses

Within the scope of the 1st Law Program, the Recovery and Resilience Plan

The Municipality of Castro Marim will move forward with applications for the construction of 84 dwellings, rehabilitation of another 78 existing ones and rehabilitation of households' own homes, within the scope of the 1st Law Program, of the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

According to the municipality, decent housing will be created for 109 families and apartments will be built for
housing at controlled costs, in addition to the conservation of existing housing, for families who, «although not fragile, are also unable to access housing, due to the national real estate situation».

«In a Municipality where we do not have affordable housing for families, nor available for the City Council to buy and make available for rent, it took a lot of effort to get here. If everything is approved, we will have around 100 families, in three years' time, with new living conditions, happier and with another motivation for life, where the house is a basic condition», emphasizes Filomena Sintra, vice-president of the Chamber of Castro Marim

«There was great concern in framing this new reality within the urban areas of Altura and Castro Marim, but also in more rural areas, as is the case with the housing complex we propose in Odeleite. For now, we would not like to create unfounded expectations, but we feel that we are already on track to be able to happen in 2027», he continues.

The investment is more than 12 million euros and is part of the Local Housing Strategy, which could give the possibility to build another 62 homes in Castro Marim, 15 in Altura and 7 in Odeleite, of various types, the processes of which are already underway.

«I can't wait to help the anguish of families who live in overcrowded conditions, or in undignified conditions, many of them workers with children, who cannot find houses to buy or rent on the market. Our commitment is to continue working so that this reality can happen. We are also very focused on ensuring that families who have houses in need of rehabilitation can have the necessary support for the works and thus maintain their homes. Alongside this strategy, we will also have regulations for sales and construction at controlled costs. This is our focus and we will commit our team to this matter», concludes the mayor.

A registration period for interested parties is expected to open soon, based on regulations that will be public.

In a note, the Albufeira municipality states that the Local Housing Strategy and the 1st Right – Support Program for Access to Housing aim to “promote appropriate housing solutions for people or families who live in poor conditions or are in a situation of financial lack”.
