In February and March, Loulé City Council raised awareness among the community about the danger of rural fires.
With the aim of promoting closer contact with the population, this initiative had the collaboration of the Municipal Firefighters of Loulé, the National Republican Guard and the Parish Councils.
The action was developed throughout the territory of the parishes of Alte, Ameixial, Salir, União de Freguesias Querença, Tôr and Benafim, with a presence also in the markets held in these parishes, bringing to the population topics related to the Defense of the Forest Against Rural Fires.
Several doubts were clarified by the authorities, but leaflets were also distributed that clarify self-protection procedures in the event of a rural fire, how to burn a fire and the need to communicate it to the City Council or Parish Council.
The civil protection agents who were at the sites also informed that it was mandatory to clean the land, in a range of 50 meters around isolated houses and 100 meters for population clusters.
