Road authorities launch campaign on seat belts and baby seats

Campaign starts today

The PSP, GNR and National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) today begin a road safety campaign on the use of seat belts and baby seats, included in the 2024 National Inspection Plan (PNF).

According to a joint note from those organizations, this campaign, entitled “Cinto-me vivo” and which ends on April 11, aims to “alert drivers and passengers to the importance of always, and correctly, using safety devices, such as seat belts and child seats”.

The “Cinto-me Vivo” campaign will include awareness-raising actions carried out by the ANSR on the mainland and the services of the regional administrations of the Azores and Madeira, and inspection operations carried out by the PSP and the GNR with a special focus on roads and accesses with high traffic flow. , which aim to “contribute to reducing the risk of accidents occurring and to the adoption of safer behavior by drivers with regard to the correct use of safety devices”.

The awareness raising actions will take place simultaneously with the inspection operations in the following locations: Friday, at 08:00 at Praça do Vitória FC, on April 08, at 16:00 at the Santarém toll plaza on the A1, the April 09th, at 09:00 at the D. Dinis roundabout, in Leiria, on April 10th, at 07:00 am at IC2 – Km 244,5, in Albergaria-a-Velha, Aveiro, and on April 11th, at 10:00 on the Nelas road, after Mercadona Commercial Establishment, in Viseu.

The PSP, GNR and ANSR urge drivers to always use an approved child seat, properly installed and adapted to the child's height and weight, in addition to recommending the use of seat belts in all seats in the vehicle and on all routes, even in short distances and, in the case of motorcycles, an approved model helmet, properly adjusted and tightened.

The action that will begin today is the fourth of the 12 awareness and inspection campaigns planned for this year within the scope of the 2024 PNF and, by the end of the year, eight more campaigns will be carried out, one per month, with awareness and of supervision.

The campaigns included in the national inspection plans have been carried out annually by the PSP, ANSR and GNR since 2020, with themes defined based on the European recommendations established for each year.

The 2023 PNF established the following themes as priorities: Speed, alcohol, safety accessories and mobile phones.
