Escaped rapist detained in Loulé

The crime dates back to August 9, 2014

A 46-year-old man, who had fled after being sentenced to a sentence of 5 years and 6 months for committing a crime of rape, was caught this Thursday, March 14th, by the Judiciary Police, in Loulé. 

According to the PJ, therime dates back to August 9, 2014, with the victim being a woman, aged 64 at the time.

As a result of the investigative work carried out by the PJ's Southern Directorate, evidence was collected that led to the identification of the suspect and subsequent arrest on October 8, 2014.

The man was present for judicial interrogation, and the most serious measure of coercion was applied to him, preventive detention.

In a note, the PJ clarifies that «the coercive measure would, however, be changed during the investigation phase to an obligation to remain in the home subject to electronic surveillance, which was disrespected, beginning a long period of escape that ended , today, with its location and detention in the municipality of Loulé».

The detainee will be brought before the judicial authority to execute the preventive detention measure.
