Spanish boat crew dies off Olhão

A 45-year-old Spanish man, crew member of the ship “Rafael Y Ana”, died this Saturday, March 2, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest while sailing approximately 15 miles (28 kilometers), south of Barra de Olhão. 

The alert was received at 9:21.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) of Lisbon, of the Portuguese Navy, contacted the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) which defined the evacuation as urgent.

«The Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately contacted the Air Force and the captain of the Port of Olhão who engaged the Olhão Lifeguard to carry out the rescue.

The INEM medical team was also on board and, after observation, declared the victim dead.
