PSP warns students about excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs on final year trips

To all students who are going on a final year trip, the PSP advises that they maintain regular contact with their families

The PSP is carrying out awareness-raising activities among students who are going on final year trips, warning them about excessive alcohol and drug consumption during those trips, the security force said today.

In a statement sent to Lusa, the Public Security Police indicates that the “Finalist Trips” operation will run until March 22nd throughout the country, at a time when students from the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education undertake travel trips. finalists, with Spain being one of the most frequent destinations.

The PSP justifies this operation with the recording of some incidents on these trips, generally «connoted with excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and narcotic products».

In this sense, he maintains, «it is essential to reinforce awareness-raising actions as a way of preventing addictive and risky behaviors associated with senior travel, and that contribute to better knowledge among young people at these ages about the dangers associated with these consumptions».

The PSP indicates that awareness-raising actions will be carried out by police officers assigned to the Safe School Program and, as an example, it mentioned that an awareness-raising action has already taken place in Guarda, in partnership with the National Police of Spain, to alert students to the risks associated with excessive consumption on these trips, as well as some prevention and safety advice.

The police recall the National Plan for the Reduction of Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies for the period 2021 to 2030, which records an increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages among young people between 13 and 18 years old, as well as in the use of cannabis among young people , in addition to ecstasy and amphetamines.

To all students who are going on a final year trip, the PSP advises that they maintain regular contact with their families during the holiday period, have fun without committing excesses, travel in a group and do not lose sight of the drink when attending nightlife spaces or any other space with a large crowd of people.

“Do not accept any type of substances from strangers, carry your identification documents and European health card, preserve the facilities of the hotels where you stay and respect local authorities” are other police advice.
