PS guarantees: Electrification of the train line Faro-VRSA completed in the 3rd quarter of 2024

«The country needs stability in public policies. We cannot continually change strategy, stop investments and change priorities»

The candidates of the Socialist Party traveled, on the morning of this Wednesday, the 7th, by train between Faro and Vila Real de Santo António and «witnessed the progress of electrification works on the Algarve train line», with the placement of 932 catenary posts that will allow the introduction of new electric rolling stock and save 25 minutes on the regional train journey .

Jamila Madeira, head of the PS list for the circle of Faro, took the opportunity to advise the vice-president of the Cascais Chamber and current head of the PSD list in the Algarve, to «put an eye on what Carlos Carreiras, the mayor of Cascais, thinks and writes about Pedro Nuno Santos, “the man that makes!""

Jamila recalled what Carlos Carreiras wrote in the newspaper I, in July 2021: «As is known, Pedro Nuno Santos and I are not from the same party family. We do not have the same political heroes. But we share the same desire to, at different levels of administration, positively transform the lives of our fellow citizens. For the first time in many years, the Ministry of Public Works is led by a man who has a vision of the future for the railway. Who is committed to commitments and respects the word given. That does not ignore the populations nor sell power point with illusions. That has political will and the ability to achieve it. Rare virtues in our current political panorama that the fact that we gravitate towards different political spheres will never prevent me from recognizing».

The socialists remember that «many promised, but only with Pedro Nuno Santos did the electrification works on the Algarve train line go from paper to the field» and conclude: «Carlos Carreiras is right, Pedro Nuno Santos is a doer and his deputy -president should listen more to the president of the Chamber».

«The country needs stability in public policies. We cannot continually change strategy, stop investments and change priorities», emphasize the PS candidates.

The electrification of the Algarve railway line represents a global investment of 80 million euros and will allow the introduction of more modern, more comfortable and more sustainable rolling stock.

It is expected that the works on the section Faro-Vila Real de Santo António, which the socialist candidates toured yesterday morning, will end in the 3rd quarter of 2024, allowing, after testing and certification of electrification work, the replacement of current diesel carriages by electric carriages.
