PSD Loulé's proposal for the creation of the Loulé Carnival Museum was unanimously approved at the last Chamber meeting.

The proposal, presented by João Paulo Sousa and Cláudio Lima, stipulates the «creation of a space dedicated to the history, art and culture of Carnival, providing an educational experience for residents and visitors to the municipality», the note reads.

João Paulo Sousa recalls that «the Loulé Carnival is a tradition that dates back to the beginning of the 1906th century (XNUMX) and is one of the most emblematic celebrations in the municipality and the Algarve region».

«Over time, Loulé Carnival evolved to become one of the biggest and liveliest carnival parties in Portugal. The introduction of floats and organized groups of revelers brought a new dimension to the event, transforming it into a true street party. Carnival is a culturally relevant celebration of great historical and cultural significance for the municipality of Loulé, with a long tradition and importance for the local community», the Loulé councilor also highlights.

With the implementation of this project, the aim is to «structure and conserve the rich existing heritage and collection and through its conservation promote a permanent exhibition that explores the history of Carnival in the Municipality, highlighting the main events, characters and traditions over the years».

The Museum should integrate temporary exhibitions, collections of costumes, props, photographs, paintings and a continuous cultural program alluding to the theme.

In the opinion of PSD councilors, this space could become “the lever for creating new dynamics in the community, through the involvement of local organizations, schools, artists' associations, among others, thus becoming a platform for sociocultural progress of the citizens of the municipality of Loulé and its visitors».
