Leader of the Chega District says he “already expected” victory in the Algarve

District Leader linked the result to “people’s discontent”

João Graça, leader of the District of Faro from Chega, who was also elected deputy, says he “already expected” the victory the party achieved in the Algarve, justifying it with “people’s discontent”.

In statements to the Sul Informação, the future parliamentarian admitted to being “very happy” with Chega’s result, which received 27,19% of the votes, more than the PS (24.46%) and Aliança Democrática (22.39%). The three parties elected three deputies each.

«The polls already gave us victory and we were waiting. We were close to the fourth deputy, around 2000 votes and this victory was the result of the work we have been doing for three years, every day", he considered.

Adding that André Ventura is also «very happy» with the result Chega had in the Algarve, João Graça said that this was «a turning point» in the region because «two colossi were defeated: the PS and the AD».

Asked about the reasons that justify this result from the far-right party, the District leader linked it to “people's discontent”.

«The Algarve, as I often say, has always been seen as an autonomous region: the difference is that it has a motorway. People were fed up. The problems are not new and when they saw someone with capacity… », he said.

This was, in João Graça's opinion, a «historic night at national level» due to the 18,03% that Chega achieved and «to which the Algarve made a great contribution».

«Let's hope that this result is not just numbers and that Chega is the Government. If we don't go, we will still fight for the region", he guaranteed.
