Registration is now open for the Ameixial Hiking Festival, which returns to Serra do Caldeirão, on the 26th, 27th and 28th of April.

O WFA – Walking Festival Ameixial reaches its 11th edition in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, with dozens of walks with different characteristics, aimed at different audiences, and other complementary activities, such as workshops and thematic conversations, as well as lots of entertainment and convivial moments.

The program includes successful walks from other editions, such as the always special Caminhada com o Pastor, in Monte dos Vermelhos, or the Caminhada da Escrito do Sudoeste, this year in a new version. But, as usual, it reserves space for some new features.

Among the new features, we can highlight the involvement of villages and hills in the parish, less present in other editions, such as Cavalos or Besteiros, and also some themed walks, focusing on traditional mountain activities, namely cork extraction.

Another highlight are the various hiking options aimed at families with children, so that participants of all ages can enjoy this event, in a creative way and in harmony with nature.

In terms of workshops, there is a topic that is always relevant for those who have to manage walking routes: their maintenance. On the 27th, the Rota Vicentina Association will talk about its experience in maintaining its large network of routes and the way it involves teams of volunteers in this mission. It will be at 15pm and open to everyone interested.

In this edition, the partnership with Domo Camp Portugal is renewed, which will install a glamping village close to the village of Ameixial, offering an additional accommodation option on site and adding yet another differentiating experience to the festival. Reservations are now open to interested parties.

Registration is available on the event website – wfameixial.qrer.pt – where you can find detailed information about the program, with a description of the walks, accommodation options, meals or transport.

Entry to the festival has a symbolic price of 10 euros and entitles you to participate in all program activities, upon prior registration for each of them and according to their specific capacity. Entry for children up to 12 years old is free, but also subject to mandatory registration, for insurance and activity management reasons.

The WFA returns every year to the Algarve mountains, promoted by QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, in a joint organization with Proactivetur, our cooperating company, and the Estela Project.

As usual, it has the support of the Loulé City Council, the Ameixial Parish Council, the Clube Desportivo Ameixialense, and the Algarve Tourism Region, through the Algarve Walking Season brand, as well as other local partners, namely the Decathlon, VisaCar and Ana Aeroportos.
