Breakdowns affect the performance of Beatriz Guerra from Quarteira in France

Athlete suffered a puncture and broke a wheel right at the start of the race

The participation of Beatriz Guerra from Quarteira in the UCI Junior Series circuit race, this morning, in Luminy, France, was marked by mechanical problems, which prevented the Portuguese woman from reaching the prominent places.

According to the Portuguese Cycling Federation, the National Team runner suffered a puncture and broke a wheel right at the start of the race, «causing her to lose many positions and forcing her to run backwards».

Beatriz Guerra made this effort and managed to reach 20th position.

«Bad luck, right at the beginning, forced a great recovery. It was always a race from back to front, but, after the breakdowns, any objective of fighting for a good result was irretrievably lost», explains national coach Pedro Vigário.

Beatriz Guerra closed the top 20, 6m33s behind the winner, Frenchwoman Anaïs Moulin. On an all-Gallic podium, Romane Truntschka followed, at 30 seconds, and Lison Desprez, at 1m13s.
