The writer from Olhão Alexandre Pereira visited primary schools in the municipality of Olhão to present the children's book “A Grande Missão – Can a bee save the World”.
The book, launched on World Environment Day, in Pinheiros de Marim, has the mission of «taking the message of the need to Preserve and Protect Ecosystems and all Living Beings even further», and, therefore, was published by the Municipality, in a special edition, with the aim of offering some copies to all primary school libraries in the municipality.
Alexandre Pereira is an environmental engineer and says that «this was a true marathon, we visited more than 40 school classes in just five days, at the end the feeling is one of enormous gratitude and happiness, not only for having been so well received in all schools but at the same time because I feel that the story I wrote will sensitize thousands of children to the importance and need to change certain behaviors and attitudes because the protection and preservation of ecosystems and all living beings is not only a reality, but also a priority».
For Elsa Parreira, councilor responsible for Education, «the strong awareness of the future generation (children and young people of today) is crucial. Although many sustainable measures are taken, the great and regrettable truth is that we, human beings, in general, are unsustainable».
« It is the duty of school spaces to educate students, at this very important stage of their development, so that these future agents of change can make the difference that the planet effectively needs», he continues.
João Evaristo, councilor responsible for Culture and Environment, highlights that «the excellent acceptance by students proves the success of the pedagogical strategy carried out, in raising awareness among youngsters about the importance of bees and the need for sustainable behavior at well of preserving the quality of life on our planet».
The book features illustrations by Carlos Rocha.
Alexandre Pereira also reinforces that «the planet is currently facing very significant environmental challenges such as climate change and threats to biodiversity and it is important to be aware that many of these problems are due to human action».
«Only with sensitized children, conscious young people and responsible adults can we move towards building a more sustainable and healthy future, always with the same Mission as Alex and Riscadinha, that we have a duty to contribute to saving the Planet.
